Choosing a cosy cat bed
Start with their favourite sleeping position.
Notice where they sleep
A curled-up sleeper may enjoy raised sides; a cat that stretches out may prefer a flat mat. Measure your cat and the space before choosing.
Make cleaning easy
Check the washing instructions and whether the cover is removable. Place the bed somewhere calm and familiar.

Make a bed comparison that starts at home
Draw the sleeping space and record its usable width and depth. Include radiator clearance, door movement and the route your cat already uses. Compare the bed’s sleeping area with its outside dimensions: deep sides can make a large-looking bed surprisingly cramped. A sheltered position should still let the cat approach and leave freely. Keep another familiar resting place available rather than treating a new bed as compulsory.
Separate everyday cleaning from occasional washing. Note which parts detach, whether you can fit them in your washing machine and what the manufacturer says about drying. A cover that takes a long time to dry may need a spare. Check seams, fastenings and filling when cleaning; put a damaged bed aside until it is safe to use. Record the actual care label rather than copying instructions from a similar-looking item.
Try the location before buying
A familiar, suitable washable layer in the proposed spot can help you observe whether the location is used. It cannot prove a particular bed will be accepted. Note several ordinary days, including noisy or busy periods, and change one thing at a time. If sleeping behaviour changes alongside other concerns, discuss those with a vet rather than trying to solve them through shopping.
